H.M.S. VICTORY, 1765 First Rate Battleship of the Line, 104 guns, 2,162 tons. The most famous of the "wooden-walls" of England and flagship of Englandd´s greatest admirals. First commissioned in 1778, tor the next twenty years she was continuously engaged on war service and in many actions. Here she is depicted wearing Lord Hood´s flag as at the capture of Toulon in 1793 before her eighteenth-century colouring was changed to black and white in the rebuilding of 1798. Thereafter !Victory" became Lord Nelson´s flagship at Trafalgar and is now preserved at Portsmouth as a national monument to England´s proud naval tradition.
